Korimako, also known as the NZ Bellbird, has a bell-like song (sometimes confused with the Tui) which Captain Cook described as sounding like small bells exquisitely tuned.
As a member of the honeyeater family, it has a curved bill and a long tongue with a brush like tip, which is used to reach deep into flowers to drink nectar.
It also feeds on fruit and insects. The Bellbird is still widespread on the New Zealand mainland, however predators keep their numbers low. Squeeze this soft and cuddly Korimako to hear its tuneful call.
Measures approximately 15 cm.
