Visiting Teacher - Taupō | Graduate Diploma of Teaching (ECE)
Kia ora koutou. My name is Toni Mitchell and I am a Visiting Teacher with PAUA. I am a qualified and registered Early Childhood Teacher and I am in the process of gaining my primary school teaching qualification. I am originally from the UK but have been here since I was 14 so more than half of my life now! I have a six year old son, partner and five year old step-daughter and enjoy living in Taupō.
I have always been passionate about the education of children and I believe the first five years are the most important of all and research confirms this. This is when they develop their social skills and all of the fundamental skills needed for lifelong learning. Children learn through relationships and play. When they are given love and affection and are allowed to play freely they develop all of the qualities that will carry them through life.
My personal passions in early childhood are children being active and outdoors, getting dirty (messy play means learning is happening!) and being encouraged to be independent and take risks. I am also passionate about children learning in New Zealand’s official languages, te reo Māori and New Zealand Sign Language. Although I am not fluent in either of these languages, the most important thing is to make the effort and keep learning!Back to Our Team
