Karen Gorton

Visiting Teacher - Hawkes Bay | Diploma of Teaching (ECE)

Hi, my name is Karen Gorton and I am the Visiting Teacher for PAUA Hawkes Bay.

Although I am originally from Wellington, I did most of my schooling in Havelock North before moving to Auckland for a period. I have been back in the Bay for over 11 years living with my 16 year old son Tate and partner Pete. His 13 year old daughter Ella stays with us regularly too. I began teaching in Auckland 13 years ago at an early childhood centre and the following year started my training at MIT in Manukau. I completed my Diploma in Early Childhood Education at EIT in Taradale in 2005.

My ECE journey has led me to where I am at now. I enjoy my role with PAUA, particularly the variation, flexibility, and of course my monthly visits with Educators and children. I personally believe that children have more opportunities to blossom and grow and become confident and competent learners within an environment similar to their own home. I look forward to being able to offer my support, guidance and knowledge to Educators, children and parents/whanau that journey with us through PAUA.
